Flavours to know

Papas arrugadas are small potatoes cooked with salt and served with mojo sauces. Red and green versions vary from kitchen to kitchen, combining ingredients such as garlic, oil, spices, chilli or coriander.

Gofio is flour made from toasted grains and used in many Canarian dishes. Traditional sancocho combines salted fish with potatoes or sweet potato, mojo and sometimes gofio dough.

Eating on the island

Fish, cheese and vegetables sit alongside these classics in Lanzarote. A village teleclub and a seaside restaurant offer different ways to experience local cooking. Check the menu and opening hours before making the journey.

Island wine is part of the story too. In La Geria, the vines grow in a volcanic landscape shaped by human work.
